The penalty allowed Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr to set his team up within manageable field goal range to claim a famous victory, and Carlson duly converted his fifth field goal of the game. In what was a penalty-ridden NFL game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, a pass interference called on Cowboys cornerback Anthony Brown kept the Raiders drive alive in overtime with the scores knotted up. Worse for Cowboys fans, the home team is now 2-6 during the McCarthy era in November.Daniel Carlson kicked a 29-yard field goal in overtime to condemn the Dallas Cowboys to a heartbreaking home 36-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Thanksgiving. Entering Thursday, McCarthy was 27-34-1 during the month designed to give thanks. McCarthy is probably not a fan of November. Do you know who else doesn’t like pecan pie, in my opinion? Mike McCarthy. Cherry or apple pie is always a better option. The people that know me well understand that I have some weird food takes. This is the fifth consecutive game the combination of Elliott and Pollard have failed to combine for 100 or more yards. The Cowboys tried to establish the run on Thursday, but the Raiders defense limited Dallas to 64 yards rushing on 20 attempts. However, the Cowboys have abandoned their rushing attack substantially during their three losses this season.Įntering Thursday’s game, Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard have averaged 28 attempts and 143 yards rushing per game in victories while averaging a mere 15 attempts and 64 yards in the Cowboys’ losses. It’s no secret that the team trailing throughout most of a football game will abandon the running game to try and win the game. I realize that I’m writing this while in the state of Texas and having just devoured some dressing in the press box, but stuffing is far superior, and so is running the football. So, I’ll spare you my rant on why turkey is so bad, but I’ll mention that you never hear about a turkey shortage. Their production was not enough for the Cowboys today, but it proves that the sides at Thanksgiving are better than the turkey. Gallup gained 106 yards receiving on five receptions while Wilson added seven catches for 104 yards. The Cowboys needed Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson to have a big game, and they delivered. At the same time, CeeDee Lamb missed the game due to a concussion he suffered at the end of last Sunday’s loss to Kansas City. The Dallas offense was without its top two receiving threats, with Amari Cooper sidelined on the CoVID-19 protocol list. Second down: The sides are better than the turkey The most costly penalty for Brown was the 33-yard pass interference call in overtime that set the Raiders up for the eventual game-winning field goal. The Raiders picked on the sixth-year cornerback throughout the game, with Brown responsible for four pass interference penalties. While I could write an entire opus on the defensive penalties in this game, I’ll focus on the day Anthony Brown wants to forget. Even worse for Dallas was the nine defensive penalties resulting in 121 free yards for Las Vegas. On Thursday, the Cowboys’ defense looked like old cranberry sauce, surrendering 509 total yards of offense to the Raiders. I’m not afraid to admit that I’m a fan of cranberry sauce, but I understand why so many seem to not appreciate the side dish.
